
A serious crash occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 22, on the Mexico-Puebla highway, specifically at kilometer 21+500, near the Iztapalapa borough in Mexico City. The incident involved at least 11 vehicles, including two trailers, a passenger bus, and several private cars.
Authorities from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), who were conducting security operations in the San Francisco Apolocalco neighborhood, received an alert about the multiple accident through the Eastern Command and Control Center (C2). Due to the magnitude of the accident, emergency operations were deployed in collaboration with medical services to attend to the injured.
After the crash, the driver of one of the trailers was detained by the police and made available to the Public Prosecutor's Office to clarify responsibilities. The accident caused shock within the community, with images and videos circulating on social media, showing the traffic chaos and the impact on dozens of affected individuals.
Personnel from the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control cordoned off the area to prevent further incidents and ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the affected highway. In addition, a SSC Condor helicopter was present to facilitate possible hospital transfers and provide aerial support to ground rescue teams.
Paramedics from various institutions such as the Rescue and Medical Emergencies Squadron (ERUM), the Mexican Red Cross, and Civil Protection responded to the accident site to assist the injured, of whom at least 11 were seriously injured and needed to be transported to nearby hospitals for specialized medical care.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the trailers, loaded with garbage, may have lost its brakes, triggering the collision with the other vehicles involved in the accident.
